2025年10月9日に福島県立福島高等学校から2名の高校生（Y.K.さん、K.S.さん）が探究学習の研究で本学を訪ねました。彼女たちの研究テーマは「日本人の実践的対話力を育てる英語アプローチ」です。国際英語学科の細川教授（専門：応用認知言語学）が対応しました。福島高等学校は文部科学省から「スーパー・サイエンス・ハイスクール」（SSH）の指定を受けており、探究学習はその一環です。この度、高等学校から来年2月に実施される発表会のご招待を受けました。細川教授がオンラインで参観します。発表会は6時間あり、口頭発表の他にポスター発表やディベート大会決勝戦も含まれています。Y.K.さん、K.S.さんお二人の素晴らしい発表を楽しみにしています。
Two students from Fukushima High School, Fukushima Prefecture (Ms. Y. K. and Ms. K. S.) visited our university this October to conduct research for their exploratory learning project. Their research theme is “Approaches to English Education that Develop Practical Conversational Skills for Japanese Learners.” Professor Hosokawa of the Department of English as a Global Language (specialization: applied cognitive linguistics) met with them during their visit.
Fukushima High School has been designated as a Super Science High School (SSH) by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and this project is part of that programme. We have received an invitation to attend the presentation event scheduled for February next year. Professor Hosokawa will participate online.
The presentation event will last six hours and will include oral presentations, poster presentations, and the final round of a debate competition. We look forward to the excellent presentations by Ms. Y. K. and Ms. K. S.
細川教授：「2人の研究は本当にレベルが高く素晴らしいものでした。応用言語学で問題になっている多くの重要な事例をカバーしており、探究学習に向けた事前学習が十分にできていると感じました。質問事項については、対面インタビュー、そして、事前・事後のメールを通した文書のやりとりで内容を深めました。素晴らしい研究発表を期待しています」
国際英語学科は、英語教育に力を入れています。将来、教師として活躍する卒業生はもとより、航空関係、ホテル、金融関係など幅広い分野で卒業生が英語を使って活躍しています。大学の英語学習は高校までの学習とかなり異なります。英語力をしっかりと身につけて、社会で活躍したい人にお勧めの学科です。
Professor Hosokawa: “Their research was truly sophisticated and outstanding. It covered many important issues currently discussed in applied linguistics, and I felt that they had thoroughly prepared through preliminary study for their exploratory research. We deepened the discussion through an in-person interview and written exchanges via email before and after the visit. I look forward to their excellent presentations.”
The Department of English as a Global Language places a strong emphasis on English education. Many of our graduates are active as teachers, and others play important roles using English in a wide range of fields such as airline companies, hospitality, and finance. University-level English study differs significantly from English learning in high school. This department is highly recommended for students who wish to develop solid English proficiency and play an active role in society.
