国際キャリア学科には、国内外の大学院に進学してさらに学びを深めている卒業生もいます。昨春卒業し、イタリアのローマ国際関係大学大学院経済学研究科に進学した二期生のN.Kさん（福岡県立城南高等学校出身）もその一人です。N.Kさんは、国際キャリア学科がイタリア企業と連携した講義やインターンシップを実施していることに注目して入学し、在学中は学科が紹介したプログラムでイタリア語を学ぶとともに、西日本国際ビジネス・フォーラムやローマのワイナリー、カッサーレ・マルケーゼでのインターンシップなども経験しました。以下ではローマで様々な経験を積みながら学んでいるN.Kさんからの報告（ローマ便り①）をご紹介します。

国際キャリア学科二期生のN.Kです。昨年からイタリアのローマ国際大学の修士課程で経済学・国際関係論を学んでいます。
イタリアの学校は9月から始まり、7月の試験期間で一年を締めくくります。本来は大学院に赴いての筆記試験が主でしたが、新型コロナウィルスの影響でほとんどオンラインでの口頭試験となりました。先生が一人一人に質問をし、院生は自分の知っている限りの知識をとことん話します。そしてその場で点数が言い渡され、他の院生もこの過程を全部聞いています。（とても緊張します！）ほとんどの授業は英語ですが、ある授業で初めてイタリア語でプレゼンテーションをしました。合格点もいただけ、良い自信となりました。
現在、イタリアは絶賛バカンス中です。夏のイタリアでは、たくさんの場所やお店が「お休み」になります。私も友人の地元のペスカーラという海のある街で数日間、ゆっくり過ごしました。ただ、お店に入る度に熱を測られたり、まだまだアジア人への偏見を感じる時もあったりなど、完璧に新型コロナウィルス感染拡大の前とは同じ状況ではないのも事実です。
新型コロナウィルス感染拡大で本当にたくさんのことを学びました。初めて差別を受けたことや、近所の銀行の支店が急になくなって一か月分の家賃が払えなかったことなど、辛かったことや大変だったことを良い学びの機会として乗り越えることができたと実感しています。また、福岡女学院大学在学中に西日本国際ビジネス・フォーラムで出会っていたイタリアの人たちが何度も助けてくれて、今ではとても大切な友人になりました。国際キャリア学科で様々な経験をさせていただいたことに本当に感謝しています。

特にこのコロナ禍で感じたのは、自分から努力して動き出さないと何も得られないという事です。ある授業で4000文字のエッセイを4人組で書いてプレゼンテーションをするという課題が出ましたが、オンライン授業でもあり、少ない知り合いたちはすでにグループができており、入る余地はありませんでした。そこで嘆かずに、とにかくいろいろと連絡を取ってグループを作り、課題を成功させることができたことは、私にとって大きな自信となりました。自分から動き出すというちょっとした勇気のおかげで、一度も対面で会っていないにも関わらず、良い友人もできました。
少しだけ周りを見渡してみてください。困っている外国からの友達がいるかもしれません。外国から来ている人も縮こまらずに、悲観的にならずに、少し勇気を出して助けを求めてみて下さい。この難しい状況だからこそ、良い友人を作るきっかけにもなると思います。自分から発信して、動き出すことでポジティブになることを学べているなと心から思います。もしかしたらこんなにポジティブなのはイタリア人の陽気な人柄と眩しくて明るい天候のおかげかもしれません。

I am a postgraduate student at the University of International Studies Rome, in Italy. I am studying International Relations with a focus on global economics.
Usually, in Italy, an academic year starts from September and ends in July with the exams. Most of the exams that I took would have normally been written ones. However, this year the tests I took were oral exams that were given online. In the oral exams the professors ask each student various questions about the lectures, and the students had to answer the questions, displaying their knowledge as much as possible. And then the professors give the marks, approximately 30 points, in front of the other students. We all listen to and watch the whole procedure. (This upset me a lot!!) I basically chose the courses in English but I also did a presentation in Italian for the first time. Fortunately, I have passed these tests and now I feel relieved from the stress.
In the summer, many shops and other places are closed for “vacation” so I went to Pescara, where there were beautiful beaches and enjoyed doing nothing but just relaxing. Now those places are full of people having a good summer as if there were no coronavirus. However, it is also a fact that we cannot say the previous lifestyles completely came back because we have to have our temperature taken before entering shops and a prejudice against Asian people still exists.
I learned many things through this pandemic. Being discriminated against as an Asian and having some financial problems were quite tough but also these were good opportunities to practice positivity to overcome the difficulties. Moreover, some Italian friends that I met in the Nishinippon Business Forum (NBF) helped me so many times and now they are among my most important friends. I am so grateful for every single person to give me opportunities in the Fukujo life.
The most important lesson from these experiences is that it is always necessary to make an effort to move forward by myself through a difficult situation. One day I had to submit a 4000-word essay and make a presentation with a group of four students. However, at that time, I knew only a few people in the class and they already had a group. Moreover, it was an online lesson, so it was difficult to find other classmates I could work with. But I tried all of my possibilities to contact and eventually I managed to finish the tasks and passed the exam too. I got also a good friendship even without seeing the person, and I am proud of my courage.
Look around you. You might have international friends who have some problems because of this strange situation. Look around you. You might have someone who can help and encourage you. Do not hesitate to ask them for some help and do not be pessimistic about difficulties. It could be a trigger to make a good friendship! I am learning to be positive and perhaps my positiveness comes from the cheerful personalities of Italian people and the bright sunshine of Italy. Please come to Italy when it is safe again to travel here!
