国際英語学科３年生のM.K.さん（久留米信愛高等学校出身）は、文部科学省『トビタテ！留学JAPAN 新・日本代表プログラム』の選考に合格し、奨学金を受けながら約１年間デンマークに留学をしています。

『トビタテ！留学JAPAN 新・日本代表プログラム』は、「自ら社会に変革を起こしていくグローバルリーダー」を目指す学生のための海外留学支援制度です。M.K.さんは、今年度始めから準備を重ね、書類審査〜学内・学外（東京）で行われた面接を通過しました。今年（2023年）８月から、D&I（ダイバーシティ&インクルージョン）実践に積極的なデンマークに留学中のM.K.さんに、インタビューを行いました。（過去のインタビュー記事はこちら：１回目、２回目）

In today’s blog, we are going to do the second interview one of our Junior year students, M.K. さん. She received a scholarship from トビダテ！留学JAPAN 新・日本代表プログラム and is now in Denmark! The interviewer is her advisor, Dr Doyle.

My biggest challenge is finding my own happiness. I think it's a funny answer, but the most surprising thing about coming to Denmark is that Nordic people value themselves very much. In this country where individuality is very important, special things are taken for granted, and they are considered wonderful and happy. It's normal for people to have different faces, bodies and feelings, so it's only natural that they have different opinions. It is often said that there is a culture of debate, but I feel that each person faces their own affairs directly and lives very honestly. At first, I was really confused by this culture which I could never have got used to in Japan. As it's normal for me not to show competition or my feelings, my actions sometimes hurt my Danish friends unconsciously. I didn't even know where to start with this obvious thing, so I just incorporated the obvious things of my Danish friends into my daily life.

私の最大の課題は自分の幸せを見つけることです。おかしな回答だとは思いますが、デンマークに来て1番驚いたことは北欧人は自分をすごく大切にしていることです。個性をすごく大切にするこの国では特別であることは当たり前であり、素敵なことで幸せなことだと考えられています。顔や体や気持ちが人それぞれ違うことは普通のことであるため、意見が違うのは当たり前。よく討論する文化であるとも言われていますが、それぞれが自分のことに真っ直ぐに向き合い、すごく正直に生きているように感じます。日本では馴染みのないこの文化に最初はほんとに戸惑いました。競争や自分の気持ちを表に出さないことが普通の私の行動は時にデンマーク人の友人を無意識に傷つけることもありました。こうした現状を前に、どこから手を付けるべきか分からなかったので、とにかくデンマーク人の友人の当たり前を毎日の生活に取り入れていきました。

I often create opportunities to communicate Japanese culture. For example, I try to show the Danes Japanese food and create opportunities to make them together. We watch Japanese anime and Japanese movies with Danish subtitles, and I teach them calligraphy, bento, sushi and simple Japanese. Sometimes we share opinions about the Danish welfare and educational systems and the Japanese systems. I feel that my interest in Japan is very great, perhaps because a school trip destination is in Japan or there are Japanese culture classes on special weeks. I often get questions about social problems. I also feel that they are interested in thinking about vegans and gender, as well as capital punishment, welfare and marriage systems. Sometimes I can't answer a question, so I search on the internet to find out the characteristics of my country's system and way of thinking. Sometimes, I leave school and visit nearby free schools, kindergartens, museums and facilities where disabled people work, and introduce Japanese culture mainly.

日本文化を伝える機会はよくつくります。例えば、デンマーク人に日本食を振る舞ったり、一緒に料理する機会を作ったりしています。また、日本のアニメや映画を、日本語音声デンマーク語の字幕で視聴したり、他にも習字や、お弁当・おすしなどの簡単な日本語や文化を教えることもあります。ときには福祉制度や教育制度について、デンマークと日本の制度の違いについて意見を交わすこともあります。修学旅行先に日本があることや、特別週間に日本文化の授業があることから、日本に対する興味はすごく大きいように感じます。社会的な問題についての質問もよく受けます。ビーガンやジェンダーに対する考え方、死刑制度・福祉制度・結婚制度についても興味を持っているように感じます。時々、私も質問に答えられない時があるのですが、ネットで検索しながら自分の国の制度や考え方の特徴を調べ直したりします。ときには、学校を出て近くのフリースクールや幼稚園や障害者の働いている美術館や施設を視察すると共に日本文化を紹介するときもあります。
