Entrance Examinations: AO types start in October, EAGL at Fukuoka Jo Gakuin University

The AO-type examination called SOGO (Phase I and Phase II) and the school recommendation-type examination called KOBO (public recommendation) entrance examinations will begin in October. In the Department of English as a Global Language (EAGL), which aims to nurture women who will play an active role globally, we look forward to everyone with different backgrounds taking the entrance examination. In the first half of the entrance examination period, we emphasize applicants' unique experiences and self-presentations. In the latter half, starting in the new year, we will conduct entrance examinations that focus on paper tests such as Common Examination Test and our university's unique tests (first term and second term). Exchange with overseas has also been lively and further acceleration is expected. In addition, the widespread use of generative AI, including ChatGPT, has the potential to fundamentally change businesses, and it seems that society will truly demand "English proficiency." We look forward to your challenges.

■ SOGO examinations in October & December

We look forward to the enthusiastic spirit of challenge from all of you. You will be evaluated through the "document screening (official report from your school and your statement of study purpose)," "short essay," and "individual interview." For the short essay, you will read an English text of about 200 words and summarize your opinions in about 800 words in Japanese, in line with the content. Difficult words in the English text, which may be challenging for high school students, are explained in Japanese. We will assess your ability to grasp key points and your thinking skills. The interview will involve discussing the content written in your statement of study purpose in English. Unlike certification English test interviews, the purpose here is communication, so feel free to ask the interviewers if you don't understand the meaning of their questions. Additionally, for the SOGO test, Phase II (December), there are no specific application qualifications set by the department. For more details, please check the website below.

■ KOBO school recommendation exam in November

It's essentially the same as the SOGO examinations, but you will need to submit a recommendation from the school principal. You will be evaluated through the "document screening (recommendation letter and statement of your study purpose)," "short essay," and "individual interview." For the short essay, you will read an English text of about 200 words and summarize your opinions in about 800 words in Japanese, in line with the content. Difficult words in the English text, which may be challenging for high school students, are explained in Japanese. We will assess your ability to grasp key points and your thinking skills. Additionally, those who have obtained a CEFR standard of "B1 or above" in an English proficiency test are exempt from the short essay. The interview will involve discussing the content written in your statement of study purpose in English. Unlike certification English test interviews, the purpose here is communication, so feel free to ask the interviewers if you don't understand the meaning of a question.
