【授業紹介】Discovering "Language and Thought": An Exciting Course with “Fiction in Action – Whodunit”

Language and thought are closely connected and play a big role in how we understand things and communicate with others. As one of the EAGL teachers, I’m excited to tell you about one of my favourite courses to teach, “Language and Thought.” In this course, we explore how language and thinking are linked, using an interesting textbook called, “Fiction in Action – Whodunit” by Adam Gray and Marcos Benevides. Let’s take a closer look at why this course is so special and how it can provide a fresh approach to your language learning journey.

Firstly, what does “Whodunit” mean?

“Whodunit” is a fun and informal word that is commonly used to refer to a type of mystery story or detective fiction. It is a combination of the words “who” and “done it”. In these stories, the main focus is on finding out who committed a crime or a mysterious event. The term “whodunit” is often used to describe a story or book where the reader tries to solve the mystery along with the characters. In simpler terms, a “whodunit” is a story that involves a crime, like a theft or a murder, and the main question is figuring out who is responsible for it. It’s like a puzzle where you gather evidence and try to solve the mystery along with the characters in the story. These stories are usually filled with suspense and excitement, as you follow the clues and make guesses about the identity of the criminal. So, when you hear or see the word “whodunit”, it means a thrilling mystery story where you have to discover who did the crime. It’s a popular genre of fiction that keeps readers engaged and intrigued as they try to unravel the mystery.
