Actively pursue‘Ties’with Jesus Christ and Others

Congratulations, all new students of Fukuoka Jo Gakuin University Junior College Division! I pray our Lord for your enrichment in learning many things at our university. The entrance ceremony is a holy promise and sacred occasion between students & our university. Fortunately society seems to be returning to normal and we are going to be increasing face-to-face classes, though not all, for this I apologize. Since the daily face-to-face worship services are especially important, we look forward to your active participation in as many as possible. We also expect you to cultivate sensitivity towards invisible attributes, things such as, purpose, aim, compassion, friendship, faith and so on.  Today, the quality, which I’d like to especially emphasize, is hope. When all of society is lost in grief, all of you are expected to shine as hopeful lights. And simultaneously you should deeply learn the realities of life inside and outside of this country. Such attitudes can be your merits in life after graduation. One hundred and thirty six years ago, Fukuoka Jo Gakuin Schools were established by one American female missionary, Ms. Jennie Gheer, in order to give Japanese women an opportunity to learn. Since then our ancestors and we have overcome various man-made or natural disasters. So come in contact with Jesus Christ, with whom Ms. Gheer walked. And during your stay at this university, begin to love to read the Bible and feel Jesus’ eyes watching over each one of you.  The Scripture, which Chaplain Jo read today, encourages you to be active in studying. In addition to this Scripture please know Our Schools’ Scripture as follows; "I am the vine, and you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will bear much fruit; for you can do nothing without me” (Gospel of John: Chapter 15 Verse 5). Its meaning is to show us the importance of ‘ties,’ especially the tie with Jesus Christ. Even if we would neglect Jesus and still try to make ‘ties,’ we will fail at it. Because every human has ‘egoism’ which the Bible calls ‘sin,’ and so such ties surely decay. But if we would abide in Jesus, we will be given rich fruits and mutual responses of appreciation. So I sincerely encourage all of you, "Actively seek for ‘ties’ with Jesus Christ and with other people". You will receive many rich graces as Jesus promised.

We welcome all of you and promise to give you the best education despite the continuance of COVID-19. We pray God for your success of communal studying and your growing up greatly.  Again I’d like to say congratulations to all new students. Welcome to Fukuoka Jo Gakuin University.  God bless all of you to start studying.
