グローバリゼーションが進むなか、様々な理由で国境を越えて新たな土地で生活する人々が増えつつあります。異なる文化と触れるのが以前より「普通」になってきていると同時に、ＩＴ技術の発展によって時間と空間に縛られずに他人とつながることが簡単になりました。日本でも在留外国人や訪日観光客などの増加で多様な文化に接する機会が増え、多文化共生が重要な課題となってきています。
「Intercultural Communication：異文化コミュニケーション」（担当：蘭紅艶）の講義では異文化コミュニケーションを学ぶ意味について検討したうえで、異文化の構成部分、歴史との関連性、アイデンティティ、言語と非言語の要素、大衆文化や対立などについてデイスカッションを通して検討していきます。自分の置かれている状況や生まれ育ちなどから自分の考え方や価値観、及びそれらから受けている影響を考えることで自分自身や自文化に対する理解も深めていきます。
異文化コミュニケーションにおいては相手とその文化に対する知識や情報が重要ですが、最も大切なことはそれを理解しようとする姿勢です。自分の文化を一番だと思う考えでは真の意味での異文化コミュニケーションはできません。異なる文化の人々が互いに関心、興味を示し、敬意を払い、そして理解しようと努力をすることで偏見や差別、紛争がなくなり、または減っていくに違いありません。
学生の皆さん、オンライン学習は楽しんでいますか。顔の表情や声の調子が使えない文字だけのコミュニケーションは気持ちを伝えるのに時間と工夫が必要ですが、適格な言葉を選ぶ習慣が身に付けば、対面授業の質も高まると思います。一緒に頑張りましょう。
In the class of Intercultural Communication, the students get to examine various contexts in which intercultural communication takes place; meanwhile, they apply what they have learned to their experiences and reflect to gain a better understanding of themselves.
An English textbook is used in this class to explain the meaning of studying intercultural communication: why do we need to learn about intercultural communication? Major issues of different contexts such as history, identity, verbal and nonverbal communication, popular culture, conflict and daily intercultural relationships are discussed with depth. As the textbook is in English, the students are expected to read before each class to prepare themselves for deeper understanding and better participation in class. They are also requested to write a summary report after each class utilizing their experience and knowledge.
To further deepen the students’ understanding of intercultural communication and get them to experience in a rather “safe” environment, an intercultural communication simulation game is also included in class. By assigning different cultural norms and rules to the students in two groups, they get to fully experience the difficult yet fun communication between the two simulated cultures.
In addition to the above content, foreign students are also invited to join the class so that the students are able to have real intercultural communication with them. By trying to speak each other’s language, they get to know each other not only by basic information of themselves such as age, hobbies, but also learn and feel the differences that are influenced by the invisible parts such as value systems, beliefs, and religions.
Although one of the main objectives of this class is to know various perspectives by learning more about other cultures, the most important yet not obvious goal is to know the “self” through the mirror of others. Therefore, by taking this class, the students are expected to explore the “self” within from various angles and employ their knowledge and experience for the better and more flexible “self” in their journey.

「Intercultural Communication：異文化コミュニケーション」では言語コミュニケーションだけではなく、ノンバーバルコミュニケーション（表情、行動性など）についても学ぶことができました。また、文化の差によりどのような問題が生じるのか、そしてそれをどのように解決していけばよいのか、そのヒントや方法についても学ぶことができました。この講義を通して、海外に出ても使えるコミュニケーション・スキルを学ぶことができ、将来に生かしていけると感じました。
