国際キャリア学部には海外提携校に長期留学する「Study Abroad」科目が設けられています。このプログラムでは成績などの履修条件を満たしている希望者は９カ国・地域にある１６の提携校のいずれかに留学し、留学先と提携して行う成績評価によって単位が認定されます。したがって、卒業が遅れることなく、学期中に留学することが可能です。

留学中の学びを活かして帰国後にTOEICの成績を大幅に上げ、７００点台から８００点台の得点をあげる学生も相次いでいます。

このコーナーでは海外提携校へ留学中の学生からの報告をシリーズで紹介しています。６４回目となる今回はニュージーランドのオークランド大学に留学中のＡ．Ｉさん（２年、長崎県立長崎北高等学校出身）からの報告です。

Ａ．Ｉさん（長崎県立長崎北高等学校出身）の留学報告

It has already been more than two months since I came to study in NZ. I've gotten used to my new life with my host family and school, so I can concentrate on studying. I am enjoying every day. I especially enjoy living with host family.
 

There are 5 people in my host family, host mother, host father, 3 host sisters who are 6, 8, and 11 years old and a dog.
 

I think the hardest period so far was the first two or three weeks. The greatest reason is that I can hear only English from when I wake up to when I go to bed and I must communicate only in English. New Zealanders speak British English from a historical point of view, so I couldn't completely understand what they talked about because I am not used to listening in British English. When I was asked something, I also said just simple answers because I had poor speaking skills. But now I'm getting used to listening to it and speak English more and more. I really appreciate my host family who treats me as a part of them and talk to me a lot.
 

I'm also enjoying my school life. I like my teachers who are kind and funny and I like to study with my international friends who are from Korea, China, Colombia, Brazil, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, and so on. Everyone tries to study together and teach each other. It is interesting for me to know more about foreign cultures which I also wanted to study about in NZ.  
 

Our school is situated near downtown and you can see more international people than at the school such as turbaned people, people wearing the Muslim headscarf, immigrants, and foreigners, and people who run a Japanese restaurant. Because I grew up in only Japan, I didn't know Auckland is such a global city. To my great surprise, the world where people respect each others differences already existed. Where you are from and what you believe in don't matter. They stimulate me to know how the world is changing.
 

My time left flies by, so I want to do many things during my time here when I have a chance.

国際キャリア学科の留学仲間と

ニュージーランド留学に来てから2カ月が経ちました。ホストファミリーとの生活と学校には慣れて、勉強に集中でき、毎日、充実しています。特にホストファミリーはマザーとファーザーと6歳、8歳、11歳の3人姉妹なのでにぎやかでとても楽しいです。
    　
初めの数週間が自分にとって一番の山場だったと思います。最大の理由は、朝起きて夜寝るまで聞こえてくる言語が英語だけでの生活だったことです。ニュージーランドの人の英語は歴史上の関係からイギリス英語なので、初めのうちは聞き取ることで精一杯でした。さらに会話力も全くなかったので質問されれば短い文章で答えるだけという状況でした。しかし、少しずつ相手の方が言っていることが理解できて、言いたいことが言えるようになってきています。私が少しずつ力を付けられるようになったのは、毎日たくさん話しかけてくれて、家族のように接してくれるホストファミリーのおかげだと思います。

学校の授業も充実しています。先生が楽しい方ばかりなうえに、韓国、中国、コロンビア、ブラジル、タイ、サウジアラビアと国際色豊かな友達と学習できるので、意見交換がとても楽しいです。みんなで勉強しようという雰囲気をつくるので、お互いに教え合いながら一つ一つ理解できています。また、留学で英語と共に学びたかった外国文化もたくさん知ることができていて面白いです。学校を出ればすぐにダウンタウンに行け、街は学校以上に国際色豊かで、いろいろな宗教の人、移民の人、外国人が運営する日本食屋さんなどを見かけます。オークランドというグロバールな街で暮らして、民族や宗教の壁を超え、お互いを尊重する世界があることが一番の驚きでもあり、世界がこのような姿へ変わっているのかとすごく刺激になります。

残りの留学生活もあっという間に過ぎていくと思います。毎日の授業と色々なものからの刺激をもっともっと吸収していきたいです。
