2016年度国際英語学科にまた多くの学生が入学してきました。
国際英語学科は毎年「敢えて学内で」オリエンテーションを実施しています。このオリエンテーションを通して新入生は、この学科で何を学ぶのか、将来のキャリア力形成のためにどのような力をつけなければならないのかを学びます。
オリエンテーションは全て英語。つまり、ここから英語を使う生活が始まるのです。グローバル人材の基礎を築く学びのスタートと言えるでしょう。
まず、川端学科長が「自立（Self-Reliance）」をテーマに、大学4年間をいかに過ごすべきかについて語りました。「自立」は「自律」でもあります。大学は自分を発見する場、自分の可能性に出逢い、自らを律して人生の基礎を創る場所です。最終的には「自律学習者」 Autonomous Learners となることを目指すのです。
昼食は教員と学生の交流の場です。午前中の緊張をほぐします。
午後は在学生によるプレゼンテーション。大学生活、留学体験など様々なテーマで発表が行われました。
グローバル人材には生涯学びが求められます。自分の限界まで挑戦するとき、新たな自分が生まれます。新入生の皆さんがこのオリエンテーションを通してその一端を感じることができれば、それが最初の一歩となるのです。
Welcome to EAGL 2016: We will show you the EAGL Orientation held on 7 April 2016.
The Department of English as a Global Language (EAGL) has a tradition to hold an "on-campus" orientation. All is done in English. Through this orientation freshers learn what to study here and how to develop the ability needed for global career.
First, Professor Kawabata, Department Chair, talked on the topic "Self-Reliance", which is a significant notion to develop our abilities. The concept, self-reliance, is related to another concept, autonomy.
Students are expected to challenge their own selves and find a possibility which they have never found before. The EAGL provides them with the opportunity to found the basis of their new exciting lives. And eventually they are expected to be autonomous learners.
After luch EAGL students presented on various topics such as study abroad programmes and teacher-training courses.
Global career requires students to work continuously. It is the work not to pass examinatons but to find their potential. We hope this orientation became their first step towards a long journey to sail away to the ocean.
