川端清隆教授（元国際連合政務官安全保障理事会担当）
安全保障法制に関する審議が終了し、国会で法案が可決しました。賛否両論が激しく対立する中で、将来にわたって国の安全をどう守るべきか、そうした根本的な問題について考える絶好の機会を国民に与えてくれたことは確かです。ただ、この問題は今後も議論されていくことでしょう。
最近の川端教授のメディア関連情報を報告します。
（１）NHKテレビ「クローズアップ現代」番組製作協力
テーマは安保理やPKOなどの「平和や安全保障」に関するもので、番組に出演はしませんでしたが、キャスターの国谷さんと製作スタッフにアドバイスを行いました。
（２）TVQ九州放送
安保法制の整備についてインタビューを受け、21日（月）夕方ニュース「ルックアップふくおか」で放送されました。
（３）朝日新聞デジタル「WEBRONZA」政治・国際ジャンルの筆者に加わる

国際英語学科の専門分野の柱に「国際交流分野」があります。民間レベルの国際交流から、国際機関が扱う国際問題まで柔軟に研究して「グローバル人材」を育てます。
国際機関は基本的に大学新卒者は採用しません。卒業後の実践経験が評価され初めて就職への道が開けます。したがって、大学時代に「世界を読む目」を養うことが不可欠です。
国際連合安全保障理事会で政務官として長年世界の第一線を観てきた川端教授と世界を学びませんか。
Professor Kawabata was a political affairs officer in the United Nations for twenty-five years before he moved to Fukuoka in 2013.
The new security laws were passed while a large number of pros and cons were still debating this issue outside of the Houses.
These laws were "controversial" because they were designed to lift the constitutional restrictions kept for seventy years after World War II.
Whether or not we agree with the bills, this issue has certainly brought us the opportunity to reconsider the security of the country for the coming years in the future.

Prof. Kawabata did not show up on the programme, but he gave advice on security laws and PKO to Ms Kuniya, main newscaster of the programme, and the programme staff.

His interview was broadcast on the programme "Look UP Fukuoka" on 21 September 2015.

He was appointed as a commentator starting on 18 September 2015.

The Department of English as a Global Language:
The EAGL has an International Exchange/Relations Study area. This area covers a wide range from local-level international exchange activities to higher-level international affairs studies such as UN.
By studying these areas with Prof. Kawabata, you will learn how to analyse the world affairs.
You would need professional experiences in order to work at international organisations such as UN. What is important, however, is to build basic and strong knowledge about world affirs and acquire your own views to see the world during your undergraduate study. Certainly, the programme will provide you with excellent opportunities to achieve this goal.
