  • Message from the President

“Educating women, rich in intellect and sensibility, who can contribute to society and help build a new future.”

Fukuoka Jo Gakuin University and Fukuoka Jo Gakuin University Junior College, which were founded on the teachings of Christianity, have promoted education and research under the vision “Connected with God’s love; in harmony with our neighbors, full of hope; connected to society, and secured to the future.”

With the advance of globalization, environmental destruction, and international conflicts, now more than ever people feel anxious about the prospects for the human race. Facing so chaotic a future, then, how should we go about living our lives? At Fukuoka Jo Gakuin we cultivate women who can positively confront these challenges and contribute to society in the future.

    The School Spirit

Founded in 1885, Fukuoka Jo Gakuin was a pioneer in women’s education which had until then been neglected in Japan. Today, the school continues to forge ahead in new fields of study which we believe will be of great benefit to our changing society. Jo Gakuin places importance upon the improvement of one’s character through the foundation of Christ’s teachings and in full accordance with the laws governing education in Japan. Our school spirit is expressed in the following principles.

    Fukuoka Jo Gakuin University

Fukuoka Jo Gakuin University strives to educate women and conduct research related to the arts and sciences in accordance with the laws governing education in Japan in order to educate women who can become full and active members of society, women who can serve God in accordance with the spirit of Christianity upon which Fukuoka Jo Gakuin was founded.

Fukuoka Jo Gakuin University Junior College

In accordance with the laws governing education in Japan and in line with the spirit of Christianity upon which the school was founded upon, Fukuoka Jo Gakuin University Junior College endeavors to carry out specialized education for women, conferring both high culture and substantially specialized learning, such that they may become good, productive members of society who love God.

Fukuoka Jo Gakuin University Graduate School

Fukuoka Jo Gakuin Graduate School aspires to implement education in order to educate women who can thrive in an international society. Following the spirit of Christianity upon which the school was founded, students are equipped with specialized knowledge, enabling them to conduct comprehensive and high level scientific research.

    University Vision

The university’s vision, established using the words alluded to in the university’s philosophy, is guided by the academy’s sacred Bible verse. Fukuoka Jo Gakuin stresses the importance of “connections”: the connection to Jesus Christ through faith; the connection to friends through love; the connection to society; and the connection, full of hope, to the future.

    symbol

The grape design of the academy’s symbol shows these “connections” which originated in Fukuoka Jo Gakuin’s sacred Bible verse: “I am the vine; you are the branches.” The outer line encompassing the grapes represents the cross upon which Jesus Christ died; the three lines symbolize faith, hope, and love; and, surrounding all of this, is Jo Gakuin’s sacred Bible verse in English.
